FOUR OUT OF FOUR FOR MICHAELA POLLERES

The next Grand Prix on the IJF World Tour was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan this weekend. A total of 47 nations and 349 competitors came to the capital to seek more points in the Olympic Qualification. So, did the Ippon Gear athletes in their chase to qualify for the Olympic Games.

POLLERES SEEMS UNSTOPPABLE RIGHT NOW

Michaela Polleres is on a roll at the moment. Following up her Grand Prix gold in Cancun and U23 European Championship gold, she took another gold this weekend in Tashkent and her fourth medal in a row. The 21-year-old is looking dominant in the -70 kg and the results just keep coming for her.

On the first day of competition, we saw one of Hungary’s experienced fighters reach the final. It was Eva Csernoviczki in the category under 48 kg where she is always one to watch.  After showing her skills in the preliminaries, she felt short of the gold medal in the final. However, the 32-year-old once again showed that she belongs in the top game as she picked up her 16th IJF World Tour medal.

On the third day of competition, Krisztian Toth also made it to the final as he blasted through his preliminaries. However, Toth was not able to fight in the final due to an injury and we hope to see him back on the top soon again. But a strong silver medal performance!

Bernadette Graf in -78 kg delivered a fantastic performance all day winning all of her fights on ippon and making her way to the final, which became a tough fight but saw Graf miss out on that gold medal. However, the Austrian experienced fighter is looking very strong.

Another Austrian medal was for Kathrin Unterwurzacher in -63 kg, who took her first medal after coming back from an injury. The multiple IJF World Tour medalist looked determined throughout the whole day and was delighted to reach the podium again. Her teammate Magdalena Krssakova also finished her day with a 7th place.

Szabina Gercsak backed up her U23 European Championship bronze medal with a bronze medal on day 2 of competition in -70 kg. After finishing with 5th and 7th places earlier this year she got back on the podium and the youngster added a fifth IJF World Tour medal to her collection and a good amount of points for the Olympic Qualification as well.

Shamil Borchashvili in -81 kg competed in his first Grand Prix and came away with a remarkable fifth place for the youngster. His confidence was high after his gold medal at the European Open in Glasgow and he even beat Olympic silver medallist Rustam Orujuv by ippon. Definitely, one to watch for the future! Also, in -81kg Attila Ungvari picked up a fifth place. It was a close bronze medal match which was decided in golden score.

Reka Pupp managed to get to the bronze medal match as well, but lost out here and finished 5th. But the U23 European Championship silver medalist is making her way to the podium and we know she will be on it soon.

Evergreen Sabrina Filzmoser from Austria in -57 kg finished her competition day with a 7th place. But the 38-year-old is still going strong and she continuously brings home results. Also, a youngster from the Austrian team Aaron Fara finished his day with a 7th place in the -100 kg category.
