Since transitioning to the senior level, Anna has quickly become a standout in international judo. Currently ranked among the top 5 in the world, she has consistently delivered high-level performances—and her silver medal in Budapest marks her first World Championship podium finish at the senior level.
In the semifinals, Anna Monta avenged a recent loss by defeating European Champion Patricia Sampaio of Portugal—her rival from the 2025 European Championship final. This time, Anna came out on top, securing her place in the final and showcasing just how much she's grown as a competitor. The gold medal match saw her face none other than Olympic Champion Alice Bellandi of Italy. It was a tightly contested, tactical battle that went deep into golden score.
“I needed to get a feeling for the contest first. For both of us, it was the same—we kept trying the same techniques, back and forth, with not much happening. Then I tried an o uchi, and it turned out to be a mistake—I fell. But that’s judo,” said Anna after the match. Despite the narrow loss in the final, Anna Monta leaves Budapest with her head held high—and her name etched into the World Championships history books.
“It sounds really good—probably better than I’m feeling right now. But tomorrow, or later this week, I’ll be more than happy. Second place is good, though sometimes I think third is better because you win your last fight,” she reflected with honesty.
Anna Monta, you have once again proven what you're made of. You stood toe-to-toe with the Olympic Champion in the division and left everything on the tatami. From your powerful throws to your mental toughness, your performance in Budapest was nothing short of inspiring. Congratulations, — Vice World Champion 2025. The journey continues, and the best is yet to come.
